Don’t let dust mite allergies ruin your sleep. My advanced sanitising service eliminates the major triggers of asthma, sneezing, and skin irritations from the source—your mattress.
My stock price for cleaning any size mattress in any condition within my core service area is $150. My price per mattress drops significantly if additional mattresses can be sanitised at the same address on the same day (my price for dust mite sanitisation on multiple mattresses is $50 each). That being said, my base price can also vary depending on your location and urgency.
My name is Steve Stoward and for 18 years I’ve been Melbourne’s most trusted mobile mattress sanitiser — showing up on time, doing my job in a professional manner and leaving your mattress dust mite free and ready for an allergy free nights sleep.
I’ve built my reputation on one simple promise; quality work done in an honest manner and delivered with genuine care.
I bring nearly 2 decades of hands-on experience directly to your door — no call centres, no subcontractors, just me and my commercial-grade equipment doing what I do best.
My clients’ satisfaction speaks volumes. Read some of the glowing reviews from customers who have experienced my professional mattress sanitising service. Dust mite elimination ensures a healthier nights sleep.

Dust mites are not visible to the human eye and if they didn’t aggravate breathing difficulties or cause allergies they wouldn’t enter into many conversions. Unfortunately they thrive off our dead flakes of skin and the warm and humid conditions of our beds. These perfect conditions simultaneously coupled with an endless food supply can result in a breeding cycle that can add kilograms of waste to your mattress within a 10 year period. I’ve completed the training and have the certification to successfully apply dust mite sanitation for mattresses. I can successfully treat any dust mite infestation. This process instantly reduces allergens that can flare up sneezing, coughing and itchy watery eyes. I provide a dust mite extraction and sanitation service on very mattress that I clean. If the mattress requires stain removal I still perform a complete dust mite extraction and sanitation before attempting a full service.
The Latin name for the dust mite is ‘skin eating spider’… Now that’s just plain scary isn’t it? Dust mites love our mattresses. Research shows that a used mattress may be housing anywhere between 100,000 to 10 million living or dead dust mites. That’s a pretty sobering fact, considering just how much time we spend in our beds. Dust mites thrive in warm, dark and moist environments. When you shed skin on your mattress it automatically ticks every box for the dust mite to settle in. Dust mites are one of the reasons we get certain allergies. They can also induce inflammation of the mucous membrane, asthmatic conditions, headaches, upper respiratory problems and flu-like symptoms.
It is important to remember that dust mites live and breed in all areas of your home. If the climate conditions are right and if there is a general food source, dust mites can begin to breed. Hard floors such as wood, tile or linoleum are less friendly to dust mites than carpet. If your hard floors are mopped regularly dust mites will resort to transporting themselves via skirting boards to a more viable breeding ground. Dust mites will often choose the darkest path to a breeding ground, a pathway least affected by U.V light.
What are dust mites and why are they harmful?
Dust mites are microscopic arachnids — related to spiders — that feed on the dead skin cells humans shed naturally every day. They thrive in the warm, dark and humid conditions of your mattress and can number in the millions in an untreated bed. It’s not the mites themselves that cause allergic reactions but their waste matter, which becomes airborne and is inhaled during sleep. This can trigger sneezing, coughing, congestion, itchy eyes, skin irritation, asthma flare-ups and eczema in sensitive individuals.
How do I know if I have a dust mite problem?
Dust mites are invisible to the naked eye so you can’t see them — but you can feel the effects. Common signs of a dust mite problem include waking up with a stuffy or runny nose, sneezing first thing in the morning, itchy or watery eyes, skin irritation or eczema flare-ups, or asthma symptoms that seem worse at night or early in the morning. If you notice these symptoms consistently and they improve when you’re away from home, dust mites in your mattress are very likely the cause.
How often should I have my mattress dust mite sanitised?
For most households I recommend a professional dust mite sanitation every 12 months as part of good general housekeeping. If you or someone in your household suffers from dust mite allergies, asthma or eczema, every 6 months is a much better target. My certified anti-dust mite spray keeps reinfestation at bay for up to 6 months after each treatment, so a twice-yearly service essentially provides year-round protection.
Is the dust mite sanitising treatment safe for children and pets?
Absolutely. I only use professional-grade, eco-friendly anti-allergen and anti-dust mite products that are completely safe for the whole family including babies, young children and pets. The products I use are specifically chosen for their effectiveness against dust mites while being gentle enough for the most sensitive household members. Once the mattress is dry — usually within 30 minutes — it’s completely safe for normal use.
Does dust mite sanitising also remove stains and odours?
My dust mite sanitation service is included as part of every full mattress clean I perform, which covers HEPA extraction, steam cleaning, stain removal and sanitisation. If you specifically book a dust mite extraction and sanitation only — without a full steam clean — the focus is on allergen removal and dust mite treatment rather than stain removal. I always recommend a full service for the most comprehensive result, and I’ll advise you on the best option for your specific situation when you call.
Can dust mites live in pillows and other bedding?
Yes — dust mites live and breed anywhere the conditions suit them, which includes pillows, doonas, blankets, upholstered furniture and even carpet. My service covers mattress and pillow treatment as standard, and I always recommend treating both at the same time for the most effective result. For ongoing protection between professional cleans, washing your bedding regularly in hot water above 60 degrees and using dust mite resistant pillow and mattress protectors are both highly effective strategies.
How long does the dust mite sanitising process take?
The full dust mite extraction and sanitation process typically takes between 20 and 40 minutes per mattress. This includes a thorough HEPA extraction of the mattress and pillows followed by application of the anti-allergen and anti-dust mite spray. The mattress may feel slightly damp for approximately 30 minutes after treatment, after which it’s completely dry and ready for fresh bedding.
Will dust mite sanitising help with my child’s eczema or asthma?
Many of my clients have reported a noticeable improvement in their child’s eczema and asthma symptoms following a professional dust mite sanitation. While I’m not a medical professional and results vary between individuals, the link between dust mite allergens and eczema and asthma triggers is well established. By eliminating the dust mite population in your child’s mattress and applying a treatment that prevents reinfestation for up to 6 months, you’re removing one of the most significant allergen sources in their sleeping environment. Many parents tell me the difference is noticeable within the first few nights.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my appointment?
Very little preparation is needed. I just ask that you strip the bedding from the mattress before I arrive so I can get started straight away. Make sure the room is reasonably accessible and if possible open a window beforehand to help with drying time after the treatment. That’s all — I take care of everything else.
Can dust mites come back after treatment?
My certified anti-dust mite spray is tested and approved to prevent reinfestation for up to 6 months after each treatment. After that period, dust mite populations can begin to rebuild if conditions allow, which is why I recommend a repeat service every 6 to 12 months depending on your household’s specific needs. Between professional treatments, washing bedding regularly in hot water, maintaining good bedroom ventilation and using dust mite resistant mattress and pillow protectors all help to slow reinfestation.
